There are two theories concerning an origin of this breed. The first says that an appenzeller - the ancient breed existing in Switzerland since the Bronze age. Other theory, assumes an origin of an appenzeller from Molosses and that this dog has got to Switzerland together with Catholics.

The appenzeller a Sennenhund concerns national Swiss breeds and is one of four Sennenhunds, unfortunately, to the most rare. Three other breeds - the Bern Sennenhund, the big Sennenhund and an entlebucher a Sennenhund are more extended.

He/she is the outstanding shepherd, hardy at work in a hilly terrain and steady against weather conditions. Also it used as a draught dog to carry small carts with products.

The appenzeller a Sennenhund is glad to any work, he will never idle. If at present it is not necessary to graze cattle, he will be engaged in protection of the house with not smaller enthusiasm.

The appenzeller well gets on with other dogs and pets, especially if has grown together with them. The appenzeller is suspicious with strangers, is betrayed to the family, loves children.

The Sennenhund is easily trained. It needs consecutive and patient education, at all rigid and without roughness. Necessarily accustom the dog to people and animals.

This dog requires the big vital space and regular job. It is possible to be engaged with an appenzeller agilities or obedience.

Sometimes it is possible to think that the appenzeller a noisy and supervigorous dog, but at enough of active employment and long walks behaviour of a dog will change.

The appenzeller loves freedom, therefore does not approach for the maintenance in apartment. If you give to a dog possibility often to walk and will be engaged in its any business conditionally it will approach for the room maintenance. The appenzeller wool requires regular cleaning and removal of numb hair.
