Cao de Fila de Sao Miguel or Senmigelsky Fila occurs from the Portuguese island Sen-Migel, paternal and there was a breed name.

In 15 century on island there is a sharp requirement for the dogs, capable to guard and to graze cattle, and also to hunt on big game - a wild boar and a bear.

For reception of new breed of Fila де Tershejra has been crossed to other Molossami and thus Fila Sen Migel has been received. Official registration of breed has occurred in 1980th years.
