The American akita occurs from an akita-inu, and earlier these two breeds were considered as one. The Japanese akita has been brought to America as a gift Elen Keller, as a matter of fact, the akita history has begun with it and in America.

In America an akita planted according to tastes of local factory owners, have flowed to it blood of other dogs. In due course the Japanese type of an akita began to differ obviously from the American. For 20 years any akita of the Japanese origin did not participate in cultivation of the American akita!

The Japan which has learnt that in America is used the name of their national breed, has demanded clear split of two breeds. As a result, in 1998 FCI recognised two independent breeds: the American akita and an akita-inu.

The Japanese akita which has got to America in 1937, used huge popularity and the prices for these dogs were huge. After the termination of the Second World War from Japan have brought many such dogs, breed became fashionable, puppies even more often were on sale.

The big Japanese dog

In 1955 mister Spilmer has based Association of Akita in America. Membership in this club was strictly closed and included 11 persons who held approximately 30 akita. A year later these people have organised Film logic Club, and in 1960 they have changed the name to the American Club of breed Akita and have united in California.

In 1963 Charles Rubenshtejn has generated one more club of factory owners of the American akita. In 1969 there was an attempt of an official recognition of this breed by the American Film logic Club, alas, unsuccessful. On April, 4th, 1973 to an akita have given the official status of breed. From now on the dogs imported from Japan did not participate any more in cultivation.

The American akita - more powerful and strong dog, than its Japanese relative. He/she is the same true and devoted friend of the owner. Akita is aggressive to other dogs, does not suffer them in the territory, therefore can be a unique dog in the house.

The big Japanese dog - a self-assured, independent dog, not aggressive to people, but mistrustful to strangers. It is not difficult to look after this dog, during a moult it is necessary to comb out an underfur carefully. A lot of empty seat for an active life is required to Akita.
