The maremma-Abrutstsky sheepdog - the Italian working breed, which history is known already an extent more than 2000. Two regions in Italy applied for this dog as on the property - the Maremma and Abrutstsi. For this reason the breed name became "a Maremmano-Abruzzese sheepdog".

Maremmas remained same as were 2000 years ago are big white dogs (are outwardly similar to a polar bear) with dense, rigid, enough long wool. Despite the sizes they are quick and easy in movement, are moderate in meal, equally well transfer itself as at-40, and +40 degrees, are capable to transfer without serious consequences sharp temperature jumps, are mistrustful to strangers, possess congenital qualities of the security guard.

Problem of these dogs was to protect herds and property of shepherds, originally from wolves and bears, and now from thieves and the run wild dogs. The maremma remains true to sheep, after all thanking its fidelities, some dogs of this breed often carried out protection one and with exclusive responsibility.

She never will leave that is entrusted its cares, at it strong security instincts and she has got used to make own decisions. These lines have remained in breed and now.

As a result of testing among dogs of security appointment, it has been revealed that the maremma - the most reliable, and in 1982 a maremma in America has been officially recognised by the best security dog.

Males of a maremma are larger, is more hardy, obstinate. Females more graceful, gentle, are more womanly in movements. Character of this breed has the features and differs from the majority of other breeds of dog. The difficult life to which these dogs for the last centuries have got used, and responsibility which was assigned to them, has made this breed the ideal watchman.

She perfectly gets on with own family and children, and also with children of friends by whom allows to do with itself everything, but it is better if the owner presents to a dog of the child. The maremma tolerantly concerns other breeds of dog and peacefully gets on with them. It is seldom got involved in quarrels and it is hard for annoying, going it can be in anger very terrible especially if that is valuable to it battles.

MAREMMA SHEEPDOG

Cane da Pastore Maremmano-Abruzzese
Maremma a severe, hardy dog who will be simply happy to be in the street in any weather. Despite rainy damp weather when the dirt sticks to feet and a stomach, the rough integumentary wool does not allow it to get inside to soft bottom hair which remains dry.

The wool possesses self-clearing effect, at drying the dirt is showered and on a wool does not remain any traces. The maremma typically healthy breed, is not inclined to illnesses and is rather free from hereditary diseases.

The maremma very clever dog and it quickly will start to miss training. She quickly understands the basic commands and can easily hand over the general course of training, but you can and not wait from it implicit obedience, as for example at a German Shepherd, servility and obsequiousness not in its nature.

Don Tomazo Korsini has written about a maremma: "the Beauty in rest and in operation, intelligence, advantage, natural security instincts - all is merits, but there is something more in our big white partners, than usual features, after all for them the Person - equal and the friend, instead of God and the owner. If you want obedience and humility, steer clear of this breed but if you appreciate friendship (to give and receive), it is a little humour and a lot of training, the present maremma the best that you can have".
